Churchill on Broadway | A Covid Play | Utah Photographer
Many of you know I love photographing the performing arts. I starting out photographing dance. It is a challenge with the lighting and the movement. But that's part of the fun! With the pandemic over the past year, most of the plays and dance performances have been canceled. All of the hard work for many of the performers was for naught.
However, this year teachers have gotten creative. This is the case with Ms. Baguley, the Theater teacher at Churchill Jr. High in Salt Lake City. She usually puts on extraordinary plays. However, she knew this year she wouldn't be able to produce a typical production. Instead, she had the students write a play about Covid using songs from Broadway shows. It was touching to see the frustration, loneliness, and isolation the students portrayed with their characters and the Broadway songs they chose. Broadway shows including Wicked, Hairspray, Grease, Footloose, Mean Girls, Gypsy, Dear Evan Hansen, and more were part of the show. The students rehearsed their songs and dances all while practicing social distancing and proper Covid protocol.
They did an amazing job. Instead of performing in front of a live audience, the performance was recorded and can be streamed at any time. I will include the recording once it is on the school's website.
I would LOVE to work with you and your theatre or dance performance! Please contact me to book me today! To view more of my work, follow me on Instagram or check out my theatre page.
